Having Fun Outsides the Parks - For FREE

​There are plenty of things to do outside the parks at Walt Disney World, Shopping and activities at Disney Springs, Disney’s four golf courses, two spas, two water parks and miniature golf courses, etc.  But, did you know there are also several free (and low cost) activities?

If you are staying at one of the Walt Disney World resorts, you can spend the afternoon and your resort’s themed pool.  Most of them have activities and pool parties in the afternoon and in the evening, most of the resorts have “dive-in” movies.

Head over to Disney’s Boardwalk Resort and watch the street performers (juggling acts, magicians, etc.) on weekend evenings, play the Midway games, take a ride on the surrey bikes or stop in at Jellyrolls Dueling Piano Bar, Atlantic Dance, ESPN Zone and other shops and restaurants.  If you are there in the evening, take a 5 minute walk to the EPCOT bridge and get a perfect view of the fireworks.   Tip:  You can take a short walk or take a boat over to Hollywood Studios and EPCOT from the Boardwalk.  

Join Bob Jackson every Wednesday – Saturday at 8:30 in the River Roost Lounge at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside for a free comedy and sing-along show.   Tip:  You can take a boat to and from the resort at Downtown Disney, every day until 11:00pm.  The dock is right behind Rainforest Café.

Every evening at Fort Wilderness there is a campfire and sing-along with Chip & Dale from 7:30pm – 8:30pm.  Tip:  In addition to the Disney Springs busses, you can take a boat over to the resort from the Magic Kingdom.

​Over at Animal Kingdom Lodge, African fire pit story-telling take place nightly at 7:30pm and Night Vision goggles for animal viewing are available at Animal Kingdom Lodge from 9:00pm – 11:00pm nightly.  Note:  You can take a bus here from Disney Springs or any of the parks.

Hop on the Magic Kingdom and do a resort crawl.  The Magic Kingdom monorail stops at Disney’s Contemporary, Grand Floridian and Polynesian resorts.  Stop in at each one and visit their shops and lounges.  If you are there in the evening, you can also get a great view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks and Electric Light Water Pageant from these resorts.  Tip:  This monorail also stops at the Ticket and Transportation Center where you can get a bus to Disney Springs and transfer to your resort.  Or if the Magic Kingdom is open you can take a bus from there back to your Disney resort.
